Description
Responsible for teaching manufacturing principles, safety and overview of specializations, including quality, processes, maintenance and lean manufacturing approaches. Knowledge of manufacturing processes and manufacturing equipment required. Provides instruction and assesses student learning in manufacturing courses; collaborates with colleagues to maintain and develop curriculum and is dedicated to the learning college concepts and develops programs and facilitates activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.
Examples of Duties
A. In collaboration with a full-time faculty member and/or program director and/or the associate dean, selects and reviews educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of skills related to each course taught.
B. Prepares and reviews current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.
C. Prepares and reviews course objectives and provides students with a syllabus for each course taught.
D. Advises, counsels and assists students in accomplishing their course and program goals.
E. Meets classes as scheduled by the college and maintains office hours as stated in the KCC Adjunct Faculty Association Contract.
F. Evaluates student performance and maintains and provides attendance and grade records for each class.
G. Remains current with content, technology and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline.
H. Assess student learning outcomes at the class, course, and program levels.
I. May participate in curriculum and course development, review and revision.
J. May attend division and faculty meetings and communicates regularly with the program director regarding instructional concerns.
K. Participates in the faculty evaluation and in?service development activities.
L. Works in a collaborative manner and responds to phone and email requests promptly.
M. Assists in budget preparation by recommending supplies and capital items where applicable.
N. Follows the policies and procedures of the college as stated in the KCC Adjunct Faculty Handbook and the KCC Adjunct Faculty Association Contract.
O. Maintains regular contact with the program director and/or full-time faculty or associate dean.
Other Responsibilities
A. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the program director.
B. Responds to the functions of the position in an environmental setting which might include cold, heat, odor, dampness, dirt, fumes, dust, oil, grease, noise, or vibration on a frequent basis. Appropriate protective devices are available as required.
C. May attend the commencement program.
D. Serves as a resource person in open laboratory or tutor session in the academic setting.
E. Represents and interprets the instructional areas to schools and the community at available opportunities.
F. Studies and interprets assembly instructions.
G. Offers directions to students specifically regarding fabrication.
H. Teaches how to fabricate and assemble items as required.
I. Additional duties include: determines if all parts are present; reads and interprets blueprints, sketches and parts list; assemble tools and materials; positions parts and subassemblies; interpret measurements; verify specifications; assemble components; ensures all parts are fitted and secured properly; alters dimensions to fit specifications as needed; resolves assembly and production issues; completes preventive maintenance; troubleshoots malfunctions and perform repairs as needed; ensures working environment is clean and safe.
Minimum Qualifications
A. Minimum of 2,000 hours work experience in manufacturing/forklift training required; Bachelor’s degree in welding/machining/fabrication or related field preferred.
B. Prior experience as an excellent, innovative teacher and with the use of instructional technologies desirable; community college teaching experience preferred.
C. Qualified candidate must be functionally literate in reading, writing, and computation skills as well as computer literate or willing to learn.
