What are the responsibilities and job description for the Linux Network Support Engineer position at Kane Partners LLC?
We support mission-critical production platforms used by enterprise customers in live environments. We are seeking a Linux / Network Support Engineer with strong Linux (Red Hat) experience who enjoys hands-on troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and close collaboration with engineering teams.
This is a Tier 2 / Tier 3 production support role - not entry-level and not a design-only position.
What You’ll Do
- Support and troubleshoot live production systems
- Resolve day-to-day issues on Linux-based platforms
- Apply fixes, updates, patches, and upgrades to production environments
- Perform troubleshooting across:
- Linux servers (CLI / administration – Red Hat or similar)
- Networking and transport layers
- Application and OS-level issues
- Gather and analyze logs, traces, and packet captures (Wireshark)
- Identify root cause across application, OS, and network layers
- Write and execute MOPs (Methods of Procedure) for production changes
- Participate in meetings with customer engineering teams to review requirements and open issues
- Report bugs and provide technical findings to development teams
- Attend maintenance windows for upgrades and patching
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule after ramp-up
Required Experience & Skills (Must Have)
- 5 years supporting Linux-based production systems
- Strong Linux administration experience (Red Hat preferred)
- Solid networking fundamentals for troubleshooting
- Ability to analyze Wireshark packet captures
- Comfortable gathering and analyzing logs from the Linux CLI
- Experience working directly with technical customers or internal engineering teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Office products
- Must live in or be commutable to the Clifton / North Jersey area
- Willingness to work on-site (this is not a remote role)
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- VMware vSphere / virtualized environments
- Exposure to SIP or real-time communications platforms
- Linux scripting
- Basic PHP familiarity
- Cisco IOS experience
On-Call & Compensation
- Base salary: $100,000 – $130,000
- Rotating on-call schedule after ramp-up (approximately 1 week per month)
- Looking for engineers who take ownership and accountability in production environments
