Description
Scrub Tech's responsibilities in a private plastic surgery clinic include but are not limited to: preparing the operating room, sterilizing equipment, assisting the surgeon with surgical procedures, and providing post-operative care. They are crucial for maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring the smooth operation of surgeries.
Responsibilities:
Preoperative Preparation:
- Prepare the operating room for surgery by setting up the sterile field, ensuring adequate supplies, and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
- Prepare patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting incision sites.
- Assisting with patient positioning and draping.
- Participate in the surgical site and patient verification (time-out procedure).
During Surgery:
- Assist the surgeon by handing sterile instruments and supplies during the procedure.
- Maintain the sterile field and prevent contamination.
- Count surgical instruments, sharps, and sponges to ensure nothing is retained during surgery.
- Help with tasks like specimen handling and medication labeling.
Post-operative Care:
- Assist with wrapping up the procedure.
- Apply dressings to surgical sites.
- Maintain the sterile environment of the operating room until the patient is transferred to recovery.
- Dispose of sharps and gauze.
General:
- Stay up-to-date on surgical technology and procedures.
- Follow department policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with the surgical team.
- Maintain a sterile environment to prevent patient infection
Qualifications
Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, especially those common in plastic surgery.
- Strong understanding of sterile techniques and aseptic principles.
- Ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) is preferred.
