Scope of Responsibilities
Kalamazoo Public Schools seeks a Coordinator of Multilingual Learners in Kalamazoo, MI (at any Kalamazoo Public Schools location as needed) to coordinate multilingual programs, procedures, guidelines, as well as federal and state regulations to staff members, parents, and the public. Implement instructional programs designed to increase the achievement of multilingual students to ensure that they are college-ready.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with curriculum coordinators to design and implement multilingual instructional and assessment programs aligned with the district and state standards and expectations.
- Coordinate, facilitate, and monitor the development of curriculum aligned to state standards and expectations.
- . Serve as the liaison between the district and community agencies to assist students needing multilingual services.
- Serve as the liaison between the district and post-secondary institutions to seek out opportunities and programs to ensure high school graduation and to provide post-secondary options.
- Review and evaluate the curriculum through continuous monitoring.
- Assist the director of curriculum, instruction, and professional development in the annual goal planning to meet system-wide curriculum and instruction objectives.
- Assist the building administrator in the monitoring and evaluation of teachers in multilingual programs.
- Serve as the liaison between the district and the Michigan Department of Education and the Federal Office of Education with respect to the multilingual program.
- Prepare, oversee, and monitor budgets for multilingual expenditures. Prepare Title III budget for multilingual programs.
- Prepare and submit required federal and state program reports and evaluations for the multilingual program.
- Provide opportunities for parent involvement in planning, implementing, and evaluating the multilingual program.
- Ensure that the curriculum reflects the district's improvement plan.
- Report to and keep the director of curriculum, instruction, and professional development updated and informed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Qualified candidates must have a Master’s degree in Evaluation, Measurement, and Research or a related field, or a foreign equivalent, and a State of Michigan K-12 Administration Certification.
- Qualified candidates must have completed courses in educational leadership, curriculum development, evaluation, assessment, and instruction
- Must have demonstrated coursework in language acquisition and English as a Second Language (ESL)
- Must have demonstrated knowledge of effective school models and state-of-the-art research on techniques of teaching behaviors
- Must have demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills in English
- Must have demonstrated technological proficiency (Illuminate, Ellevation, PowerSchool);
- Must have demonstrated professional development, including designing and delivering staff training.
- Additionally, qualified candidates must have at least three (3) years of post-baccalaureate experience in any position with successful administration or classroom performance in ESL and/or world language and curriculum development, teaching, and learning.
