Position Title: Head Middle School Track Coach

Season begin date: March 2026

Season end date: May 2026

Salary: $2,586.00 - $3,000.00 DOE

Reports to: Athletic Director

Location: Kalama Middle School, Kalama, WA

This position is not eligible for retirement or health benefits

Essential Functions

  • Provides instruction to students in the rules, regulations, equipment and techniques of the sport
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
  • Assesses students\' skills, monitors students during competition and practice
  • Implement and maintain team rules/guidelines for consistent compliance of discipline.
  • Conduct and supervise all practices
  • Ongoing and regular communication with student athletes and parents regarding the program vision, philosophy, schedule, and all important program information.
  • Supervise student athletes before, during, and after practices and games
  • Partner with the athletic director to provide an excellent and meaningful student athlete experience.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an injury
  • Model sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards students, officials and spectators
  • Maintain a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times
  • Participate in special activities to include parent\'s night, banquets and award nights
  • Perform support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records
  • Model non discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Must complete my247 and all WIAA trainings through FinalForms and SafeSchools through the district prior to the beginning of the sport\'s season
  • Supervises and maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security
  • Distributes and collects equipment, supplies and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach
  • Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • High School diploma or GED
  • Per WIAA - minimum age for head coach is 21 years of age, assistant coach is 19 years of age
  • Previous Coaching experience preferred
  • Reasoning ability

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • CPR/First Aid card

LANGUAGE & TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules.
  • Ability to speak effectively and professionally to administration, staff, students and parents.
  • Ability to use district directed platforms to communicate with students and parents, i.e. FinalForms.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or work output of other people. Requires some travel.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.     

Work Environment: 

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Work is predominantly in outdoor stadiums, athletic rooms and gyms.

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to other school district buildings as required.
