Position Title: Certificated - ALE (Alternative Learning Environment) Teacher (0.4 FTE)

Days/Hrs: 187 days (0.4 FTE), daily hours to be determined

Start Date: August 21, 2026

Pay Schedule: 26-27 Salary Schedule

Benefits: Position does not qualify for health benefits, but does qualify for retirement through the WA State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS)

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership in program development and improvement
  • Normal work day will include hours in the evenings and/or on weekends
  • Use the Washington State Learning Standards and testing requirements
  • Teach curriculum from a broad range of topics and grade levels
  • Research and create lessons that complement/supplement the curriculum
  • Track and assess student academic progress and attendance
  • Individualize instruction to help each student achieve curricular objectives
  • Provide students and parents with regular feedback regarding curricular/instructional needs, student performance, and student progress
  • Generate information and formal reports regarding student performance and progress
  • Prepare students for standardized tests and proctor site-based exams
  • Collaborate with various general education content teachers to provide additional support and guidance to students
  • Track student progress and manage student learning plans
  • Collaborate closely with Washington Association for Learning Alternatives to improve learning programs and processes
  • Collaborate closely with counseling staff to ensure high school and beyond requirements are integrated into student learning plans

Additional Duties

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

  • Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements  

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. 

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of Written Student Learning plans.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to work independently with high levels of efficiency
  • Ability to solve problems and be a parent of the solutions; takes ownership of their role
  • Must have the ability to create and maintain connections with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences
  • Must have the ability to use technology and adapt to the use of new technologies to support the performance of all job duties 

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards  

  • Works in standard office and school building environments. 

Certification/License 

  • Teaching certification through Washington State
  • Motor Vehicle Operator\'s License or ability to provide own transportation. 

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment. 

Experience

  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level  preferred.
  • Teaching or supervising in an alternative education program is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ALE reporting and documentation for state audits.
  • Successful experience running an Alternative Learning Program.

FLSA Status: Exempt
