The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers to ensure safe, efficient patient care delivery. This role prepares patients for examinations, assists with clinical procedures, performs basic laboratory functions, and supports documentation and billing processes. The position promotes patient education, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency within the clinic setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, performing screenings, documenting medical history, and confirming visit purpose.
- Assist providers during examinations and procedures, including specimen collection, basic laboratory testing, medication administration, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, wound care, and suture removal.
- Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Medical Record, including medications, assessments, and treatment details.
- Educate patients on medications, treatments, diet, and follow-up instructions.
- Schedule and coordinate patient services and respond to inquiries in person and by telephone.
- Record billing information, complete insurance documentation, and respond to third-party inquiries.
- Monitor inventory, order supplies, and maintain clinical equipment functionality.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and support departmental quality metrics.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with organizational, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Maintain a safe clinical environment by following infection control and safety protocols.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:
- Other duties as assigned by the Clinic Practice Manager.
JOB QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
Required:
- Medical Assistant Certification.
- Accurate typing and data entry skills.
- Electronic Medical Record proficiency.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of clinic billing procedures.
- Previous healthcare experience.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICALS REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking.
- Frequent handling and fingering.
- Occasional pushing up to 25 pounds and lifting up to 5 pounds
- Requires sustained concentration, visual acuity, and effective written and verbal communication in English.
