What are the responsibilities and job description for the Precision Grating Assembly and Welding Technician position at Kadee Industries Inc.?
Build what others stand on
Join a team that fabricates the grating systems used in demanding environments. Your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and safety mindset will help deliver products that meet exact specifications every time.
Your impact
You will transform drawings and job travelers into finished assemblies by selecting the right materials, laying out to spec, and welding to tight tolerances. You’ll support multiple product lines, keep accurate records, and help maintain equipment reliability — all while collaborating with a skilled crew.
Key responsibilities
- Bring either foundational Welder I capabilities with the ability to read basic prints and complete simple fabrications (including straight/band cuts, applying nosing and toe plates, and installing anchor blocks) or demonstrate the ability to set up and weld all heavy-duty hand-welded grating configurations.
- Achieve consistent quality and productivity benchmarks.
- Handle layout, fit-up, assembly, and welding based on material and spacing defined in job orders and drawings.
- Operate independently in a largely self-managed environment.
- Safely utilize overhead and jib cranes for moving and positioning panels.
- Operate a variety of equipment: band/cold/table saws, grinders, presses, cutting torches, routers, and welders.
- Accurately complete time sheets and traveler documentation to support inventory management.
- Conduct routine equipment maintenance; recognize and communicate service needs.
- Provide troubleshooting support for welding and fabrication issues across business units.
- Shift across production lines to meet changing demands.
- Contribute to a positive, communicative team culture.
- Maintain clean, organized personal and common work areas.
- Participate in cross-training and handle other tasks as assigned.
What you bring
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with MIG and Stick processes; oxy/fuel and plasma torch work on carbon steel, stainless steel, and/or aluminum.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1, D1.5, and/or D1.2; certification out of position.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints; skilled with metric and standard tape measures.
- Safe operation of overhead cranes and common shop tools.
- Math proficiency: add/subtract two-digit numbers; multiply/divide by 10s and 100s without a calculator; perform operations with whole numbers and fractions in both metric and standard units.
- Preferred: 2–4 years in fabrication; 2–4 years with a steel, stainless, or aluminum manufacturer; 1–2 years working with overhead cranes.
Physical requirements
Repetitive motion with prolonged standing and walking. Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling of grating materials. Regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs with proper technique, assistance, or lifting aids.
Environment
Production-floor conditions with required PPE. Regular exposure to noise, dust, heat, and cold. Proximity to machinery and tools requires strict adherence to safety standards.
