Job Opportunity: Payroll Accountant
Are you a detail-driven payroll professional who enjoys connecting the dots between payroll, accounting, compliance, and people? KAAPA is looking for a Payroll Accountant who takes pride in accuracy, thrives on deadlines, and wants to play a key role in keeping our multi-location operations running smoothly. In this role, you’ll process payroll, support reporting and reconciliations, partner closely with HR and Accounting, and help strengthen the systems and processes that support our employees every pay period.
Job Responsibilities:
Process multi-location payroll accurately and on schedule.
Manage payroll tax filings, W-2 preparation, quarterly payroll reports, and year-end payroll activities.
Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
Prepare payroll accruals and journal entries.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for payroll, accounting, and compliance.
Assist with internal and external audit requests related to payroll and compensation records.
Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Generate and distribute payroll, labor, and benefit-related reports for management.
Collaborate with HR regarding employee changes, benefits deductions, leaves of absence, and compensation updates.
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance payroll accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls. Continuous improvement, reporting, variance investigation, and adherence to deadlines reflect expectations found in existing accounting support roles.
Travel to locations and meetings as needed.

Working Hours:
Monday - Friday: 8am - 4:30pm with additional hours required during harvest and as required throughout the year.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or another related field required
Valid driver’s license with the State of Nebraska required and insurable with KAAPA Ethanol Holdings, LLC vehicle insurance policy.
Experience processing payroll and payroll reporting.
Knowledge of payroll taxes, wage and hour regulations, and accounting principles.
Able to multi-task and maintain order and control over tasks.
Able to manage with a high level of professionalism, ethics, and accountability to serve as a positive role model within the company.
Attention to detail with the ability to self-check work for accuracy, clarity, and thoroughness.
Strong analytical skills.
Possess organizational skills necessary to achieve promptness in meeting deadlines.
Able to be at work on time, ensuring work responsibilities are covered when absent.
Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Able to approach relationships and work in a manner that is open, honest, trustworthy, and fair.
Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
Experience with HRIS software systems preferred.
Expertise with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
