We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Scientist II to join the Cell Culture Process Development group within PDS&T Biologics at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA.
This role will support the development and optimization of cell culture manufacturing processes for early- and late-phase clinical programs, with a focus on delivering high-yield, robust processes that support efficient manufacturing and desirable product quality attributes.
🧬 Key Responsibilities
- Execute scientific R&D to improve platform processes and workflows
- Develop new methods, build technical expertise, and deepen scientific understanding
- Work cross-functionally with Analytical Development, Cell Line Development, Discovery, Manufacturing, and Quality
- Identify new information and opportunities to advance technologies and the development pipeline
- Evaluate relevant scientific, regulatory, and business advances
- Communicate scientific data and concepts through reports, presentations, and manuscripts
- Author and review technical reports, protocols, and other key documents
- Follow corporate standards for safety, documentation, code of conduct, and GMP compliance
🎓 Required Qualifications
- M.S. in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related Life Sciences discipline plus 2 years of industrial experience
- OR
- B.S. in a related discipline plus 5 years of industrial experience
- Strong understanding of cell culture processes, including:
- Cell culture process development
- Process scale-up and scale-down
- Recombinant protein production
- Protein characterization
- Proven experience working aseptically in cell culture processes at benchtop bioreactor scale
- Strong organizational, planning, troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Scientific curiosity and a passion for problem-solving and process optimization
⭐ Key Technical Experience
ATF/TTF Perfusion experience is required, supporting intensified cell culture processes, including N-1 Perfusion.
Experience with laboratory cell culture automation systems such as Ambr250 is a bonus.
