Position Summary

K-Slope Marketplace is seeking an experienced and hands-on Produce Manager to lead our Produce Department. The Produce Manager is responsible for maintaining a fresh, attractive, well-stocked department while managing employees, inventory, ordering, merchandising, shrink, and overall department performance.

This is a hands-on management position. The Produce Manager is expected to work alongside the team and maintain high standards for freshness, presentation, cleanliness, and customer service.

Spanish fluency is required for this position to effectively communicate with and manage department employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Produce Department.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and direct produce department employees.
  • Communicate effectively with employees in both Spanish and English.
  • Order produce and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on sales, seasonality, promotions, and anticipated demand.
  • Inspect incoming deliveries for quality, freshness, condition, and accuracy.
  • Maintain high standards for product freshness and immediately remove damaged, spoiled, or poor-quality merchandise.
  • Keep displays fully stocked, organized, rotated, and visually appealing throughout the day.
  • Properly rotate merchandise using FIFO and other appropriate rotation practices.
  • Monitor inventory, waste, spoilage, markdowns, and shrink and take steps to reduce unnecessary losses.
  • Work with Store Management to improve department sales, gross profit, and overall performance.
  • Execute weekly sales, promotions, seasonal displays, and merchandising plans.
  • Ensure promotional and advertised items are properly stocked, signed, and displayed.
  • Monitor pricing and ensure products are correctly labeled and signed.
  • Maintain accurate receiving, ordering, and inventory records.
  • Ensure the department, coolers, prep areas, displays, equipment, and storage areas remain clean and organized.
  • Maintain proper food safety, sanitation, temperature, and handling standards.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond professionally to customer questions or concerns.
  • Coordinate with Store Management and other departments as needed.
  • Identify staffing, inventory, equipment, or operational issues and communicate them promptly to Store Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous produce department experience required.
  • Previous supermarket produce management, assistant management, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of fruits, vegetables, produce quality, freshness, rotation, and merchandising.
  • Experience with produce ordering and inventory management.
  • Ability to recognize quality issues and make appropriate purchasing, markdown, and disposal decisions.
  • Strong leadership and employee management skills.
  • Must be able to speak Spanish.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.

Schedule & Pay

  • Full-time; weekend and holiday availability required.
  • 6 days a week
  • Competitive pay starting at $17 / hour, based on experience.
