Diesel Mechanic (with Computer & Diagnostic Skills)
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic as a shop foreman with strong mechanical expertise and computer diagnostic knowledge to inspect, maintain, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate is experienced in using modern diagnostic tools, troubleshooting electronic systems, and ensuring vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform routine maintenance on diesel engines (oil changes, filter replacements, inspections)
· Diagnose mechanical and electronic issues using computer-based diagnostic equipment
· Repair or replace faulty engine components, electrical systems, and fuel systems
· Interpret diagnostic codes and troubleshoot engine performance issues
· Maintain and repair braking systems, transmissions, and hydraulic systems
· Conduct DOT inspections and ensure compliance with safety regulations
· Use software systems to track repairs, maintenance records, and inventory
· Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and performance
· Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Required Skills & Qualifications
· Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role
· Strong knowledge of diesel engines, systems, and components
· Proficiency in using diagnostic software and scan tools
· Basic to intermediate computer skills (data entry, repair logs, diagnostic systems)
· Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams
· Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Detroit, Volvo, Paccar, Cat Engines
Preferred Qualifications
· ASE Certification (Diesel or Medium/Heavy Truck)
· Experience with brands like Cummins, Caterpillar, or Detroit Diesel
· Familiarity with fleet management or maintenance software
· CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) – a plus
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs
· Comfortable working in various weather conditions
· Ability to stand, bend, and work in tight spaces for extended periods
Work Environment
· Shop and/or field environment
· Exposure to noise, grease, and heavy equipment
· May require overtime or weekend work depending on workload
