What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Engineer/PLC Controls position at K&K Technical?
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC control systems (Allen-Bradley / Siemens) for automated manufacturing equipment
- Support electrical system design, including control panels, field devices, and network architecture
- Integrate and commission paint shop systems, conveyors, and material handling equipment
- Modify and optimize PLC logic, HMI/SCADA interfaces, and system communications
- Support equipment installation, startup, and commissioning at customer sites
- Perform I/O checks, loop checks, and system validation testing
- Lead and support debugging and root cause analysis during production trials
- Collaborate with mechanical, process, and project teams to ensure system performance and delivery timelines
- Interface with vendors, subcontractors, and customers during project execution
- Support factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT)
- Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards, and customer specifications
Work Environment
- 📍 Based in Greer, SC with project-based travel (up to 50%)
- 🏭 Work across automotive plants, paint shops, and industrial manufacturing facilities
- ⏱ Ability to support extended hours, weekends, and shutdown schedules
What You Bring (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3 years of experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens)
- Experience supporting industrial automation systems, conveyors, or process equipment
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control drawings
- Hands-on experience with installation, commissioning, and startup support
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, etc.)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a live production environment
- Willingness to travel extensively and support on-site project work
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automotive paint systems (E-coat, Sealer, Topcoat, etc.)
- HMI/SCADA experience (FactoryTalk, WinCC, Ignition, etc.)
- Knowledge of robot integration (Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)
- Experience with safety PLCs and standards (ISO 13849, ANSI B11)
- Exposure to MES/SCADA integration and data systems
- Previous experience working with OEMs or system integrators
