Engineer to support digital manufacturing initiatives focused on body production lines, robotic welding, and 3D body weld modeling.
This role supports automotive body manufacturing and robotic welding operations through advanced digital engineering tools such as DELMIA, CATIA, and AutoCAD. The engineer will collaborate closely with manufacturing and robotics teams to evaluate welding feasibility, develop 3D concepts, estimate cycle times, and support offline robot teaching activities.
This position is ideal for an engineer with hands-on manufacturing experience, strong 3D modeling capabilities, and an interest in digital factory development within automotive production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and lead digital factory updates using DELMIA C3, CATIA, AutoCAD, and MS Office tools
- Develop and maintain 3D body weld models for automotive production lines
- Evaluate Z1 and Z2 robotic welding processes for feasibility and optimization
- Estimate robotic welding cycle times to support manufacturing planning
- Create 3D concepts for welding equipment and End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT)
- Support robotic welding strategies using multiple engineering data formats
- Perform offline robot teaching and support onsite robot teaching activities
- Collaborate with engineering teams on body weld model changes and production updates
- Develop documentation supporting digital factory and robotic welding activities
- Support manufacturing process improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of professional experience in manufacturing engineering, robotics, or a related engineering role
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Engineering degree (Mechanical Engineering preferred) or equivalent work experience
- Experience with 3D design/modeling softwaresuch as:
- CATIA
- DELMIA
- SOLIDWORKS
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including strong Excel skills
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and robotic applications
- Ability to work cross-functionally within engineering and production teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive manufacturing experience, particularly within Body-In-White (BIW) or robotic welding environments
- Experience with robotic welding (spot weld or arc weld)
- Experience with robotic material handling systems
- Offline robot teaching or offline data preparation experience
- Laser scanning experience
- AutoCAD experience
- Experience with MS SharePoint
- VB or VBA programming experience
- Transferable 3D modeling experience within mechanical or manufacturing environments
