What We Are Looking For

We're looking for a detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant who actually enjoys getting into the weeds of product cost – ingredient costs, formulation changes, fulfillment and freight, all of it. You'll own the true cost picture behind our products, from raw ingredients through a shipped order, and turn that into reporting our leadership team can actually use to make decisions. You should be comfortable evaluating cost-plus pricing from our co-manufacturing partners – not just accepting the numbers they send, but understanding what's actually driving them. This isn't a role where you run one report and move on – you'll be digging into variances, flagging what's off, and helping us get sharper on margin as we scale. What You'll Do

Product Costing & Bill of Materials (BOM) Management

• Own and manage product costing end-to-end, including raw materials, assembly, and toll blending costs.
• Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for our products, ensuring accurate and timely costs are reflected across the product line.
• Keep BOMs current as formulations, suppliers, assembly steps, or toll blending arrangements change, so cost data never falls out of sync with what we're actually producing.
  
  

Cost Analysis & Reporting

• Analyze ingredients, production, labor, and fulfillment costs to ensure accurate cost allocation across our product lines.
• Prepare detailed, easy-to-use cost reports for leadership, translating the numbers into insights they can act on.
• Partner with Product Development on costing for new formulations and SKUs before launch.
• Review and validate cost-plus pricing from co-manufacturing partners, ensuring pricing structures are accurate, fair, and properly reflected in our cost of goods.
  
  

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Support the budgeting and forecasting process with accurate cost data, trend analysis, and margin projections.
• Identify cost trends early and flag them before they become a problem in the P&L.
  
  

Inventory & COGS Management

• Monitor and reconcile inventory records, ensuring accuracy in costing and valuation across raw ingredients, work-in-process, and finished goods.
• Own the accuracy of cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting, including freight and fulfillment costs specific to our e-commerce model.
  
  

Cost System Maintenance & Process Improvement

• Maintain and improve our cost accounting systems and processes in NetSuite, ensuring they scale as the business grows.
• Identify opportunities to streamline cost accounting workflows and reduce manual work through better system use.
  
  

Variance Analysis

• Conduct variance analysis between actual and budgeted costs, digging into the "why" behind the numbers, not just reporting the gap.
• Provide management with clear, actionable recommendations based on variance findings.
  
  

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to cost accounting, in compliance with GAAP.
• Support internal and external audits with accurate, well-organized cost documentation.
• Ensure cost accounting practices align with internal controls and company policy.
  
  

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Production, Procurement, and Finance to keep cost strategy aligned with company goals.
• Communicate cost and margin findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders across the business.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred but not required.
• 5-7 years of cost accounting experience, ideally in CPG, manufacturing, or e-commerce.
• Experience with cost-plus pricing models in a co-manufacturing environment – you know how to evaluate and validate a co-manufacturer's cost-plus structure, not just take it at face value.
• Hands-on experience creating and managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), including product costing across raw materials, assembly, and toll blending operations.
• Strong working knowledge of cost accounting principles and GAAP.
• Proficiency in NetSuite and advanced Excel skills.
• An analytical mindset with genuine attention to detail – you catch what others miss.
• Ability to explain complex cost and financial data clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
