Accountant Lead & Full-Charge Bookkeeper — Own Our Books & Grow (Just Heat Pumps)

We're not looking for someone to just keep the books. We're looking for someone to own the numbers which steer a company that is doubling in size and one that needs a true accountant.

Just Heat Pumps is a fast-growing Denver-based heat pump installation company focused 100% on high-performance heat pump systems. We’re obsessed with craftsmanship, clear communication, and getting the details right, from the job site to the books.

We are looking for a part-time, skilled, honest, and eager-to-grow accountant to start immediately, with a long term vision of moving towards full time and towards a controller department position. We prefer those local to the Denver area with local travel ability from time to time for team and customer activities. 

You'll work from home most of the time and your schedule is flexible. You don't have to know every rebate program or tax filing on day one, but you need to be honest about what you know and what you do not. You need to be eager to learn and thrive on to-the-penny accounting. You don't need HVAC experience and you don't need controller experience yet. You need to be disciplined, trustworthy, and detail-obsessed.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Full Charge Bookkeeping, AR/AP, Payroll, And Finance

• Day-to-day transactions: Record and categorize income and expenses in QuickBooks
• Accounts payable: Enter, code, and pay vendor bills on time. You’ll work with them directly.
• Accounts receivable: Invoice jobs, apply payments, manage collections, and you’ll be accountable for working with customers directly to ensure AR stays low.
• Reconciliations: Reconcile bank and credit-card accounts
• Journal entries & general ledger: Post entries and maintain the GL
• Month-end close: Run the close and produce financial statements
• Chart of accounts: Own and maintain the chart of accounts
• Payroll: Process payroll, commissions, and payroll taxes
• Sales & use tax: Calculate, file, and remit on time
• 1099s & W-2s: Manage W-9s and year-end tax forms
• Vendor & customer records: Keep records accurate and current
• Financial reporting: Deliver cash-flow and AP/AR reports
• Financial projections and forecasting: Work with the owners on forecasting
• Inventory Tracking: Creating a 3-way match system in real time.
• Year-end / CPA handoff: Keep books clean and audit-ready

WHAT WE OFFER

• Pay: $25 to $33/hour based on experience and skill level.
• 20~ hours per week with much room to grow as we do.
• Department-level accountability and ownership of the role.
• Work directly with founders Dr. Xerxes Steirer (PhD physicist, Mines and NREL background) and Erin Shine (BPI-certified energy auditor, 20 years in sustainability), plus an amazing team bringing electrified heat pumps to clean the Denver Metro air. 
• Ownership of building a real finance and accounting department for the company. We’ll lean on you for your expertise on this.

REQUIREMENTS

• Full-charge bookkeeping and accounting experience through month-end close, working independently and not just doing data entry.
• Excellent QuickBooks Online skills including invoicing, billing, reports and coding, including owning the chart of accounts.
• A reliable, secure home workspace and internet, since the role is mostly remote (80/20).
