Position Overview
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a leading HVAC-R contractor in the Miami area seeking a Commercial Refrigeration Installation/Service Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established team working on high-profile commercial projects, including superstores and warehouses.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience installing and servicing large-scale commercial refrigeration systems, with strong technical knowledge and a proactive, safety-first approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, pipe, and wire commercial refrigeration systems according to engineering drawings, specifications, and industry best practices.
- Commission refrigeration equipment, including walk-in coolers/freezers, rack systems, compressors, and control systems.
- Perform system leak testing, evacuation, and refrigerant charging (including R-404A, R-448A, CO₂, and other refrigerants).
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation issues and ensure all systems are tested and operational before client handover.
- Coordinate and collaborate with general contractors, electricians, and other trades on-site.
- Maintain detailed job documentation including change orders, commissioning reports, and service logs.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with EPA regulations, OSHA standards, and local Miami-Dade County building codes.
- Provide start-up and client training as needed.
- Mentor and support junior technicians or apprentices on-site.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or HVAC-related certification preferred.
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in commercial refrigeration installation and service.
- EPA 608 Universal Certification is required.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, components, and commercial systems (rack systems, walk-in boxes, split systems).
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and refrigeration schematics.
- Proficient in piping, brazing, pressure testing, and leak detection.
- Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in the South Florida market (Miami-Dade, Broward counties).
- Knowledge of CO₂ refrigeration systems or transcritical systems is a strong plus.
- Familiarity with control systems such as Emerson E2, Danfoss, Carel, etc.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- OSHA 10/30 certification or other job site safety credentials.
Working Conditions
- Field-based role across active construction and retrofit sites in the Miami area.
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights, and in confined spaces.
- Outdoor work in the South Florida climate year-round.
- Occasional travel throughout the region; overtime and weekend work may be required depending on project schedules.
Compensation & Benefits
- $35 to $50 per/hour (based on experience).
- Overtime pay and/or per diem for travel projects.
