SUMMARY The landscape Inspector plays a vital role in ensuring the beauty and functionality of our parks and facilities and is responsible for inspecting park landscapes, overseeing contracted maintenance work, and guaranteeing adherence to safety and quality standards. This includes monitoring irrigation systems, supervising tree care, and addressing maintenance concerns. The role also provides crucial support to the parks Maintenance Manager by supervising, helping to guide, mentoring, and providing clear direction to the District’s maintenance team, along with handling urgent park and facilities development issues when the manager is unavailable, including answering inquiries, resolving problems, and following up to ensure timely completions. QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
- Perform routine inspections to identify leaks and damage and ensure proper irrigation system functions, maintenance, repair, and renovation.
- Strong understanding of landscape maintenance practices.
- Install new irrigation systems following established protocols.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose common irrigation system malfunctions.
- Working knowledge of basic renovation and repair skills (welding, carpentry, plumbing, Electrical) is preferred.
Ability to:
- Work with minimal supervision due to a thorough understanding of operational procedures and policies.
- Handle most situations independently, seeking occasional guidance from new or uncommon scenarios.
- Complete tasks without close oversight, with work reviewed for accuracy and policy adherence.
- Excellent communication and interpretation skills.
- Able to handle a variety of tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
Note: JARPD prioritizes safety. • While this role involves basic plumbing and electrical tasks. You will always follow established safety protocols. The District will collaborate with licensed contractors when required for complex repairs.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Desired Skills & Experience
- High school diploma/GED and two (2) years experience using and operating tools and equipment used in grounds and building maintenance.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory/lead role in a commercial/institutional landscape management or design management environment.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Strong Communication skills are essential for this role.
- Effectively read, interpret, and apply information from various documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Clearly and concisely write routine reports, professional correspondence, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Confidently and effectively deliver information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Bilingual is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Basic math skills and the ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of introductory algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
- Can identify and solve problems with clear steps and predictable outcomes using commonsense.

Driver’s License & Insurance:
- A valid California Driver’s License or California Identification Card
- First Aide/CPR Certification
- Current First Aid/CPR certification for infants, Children, and Adults is required.
- If you don’t currently hold this certification, you must obtain it within 60 days of the hire date.
