Juniper Tree Counseling – Roseburg, Oregon

Position Summary

This position provides on-site childcare for the infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children of employees of Juniper Tree Counseling in Roseburg, Oregon. Care is provided in a small-group setting intended exclusively for the children of staff and is limited to group sizes consistent with Oregon license-exempt childcare regulations.

The childcare program is operating while site certification through the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care is in progress. Services are delivered in accordance with applicable Oregon health, safety, supervision, and child-to-caregiver requirements for small childcare settings.

The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing needs of children and program operations, and demonstrating initiative in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment. Duties are representative examples of position expectations and may change based on the needs of the agency and the children served.

Due to the rural area we live in and to maintain professional boundaries and protect client confidentiality, individuals who are actively receiving services from Juniper Tree Counseling are not eligible for employment with the agency. Applicants who previously received services may be considered for employment after a minimum period of time following discharge, provided no conflicts of interest or dual relationships exist. Employees may not receive clinical services from supervisors or staff within their reporting structure and may not access their own or family members’ records.

Essential FunctionsChild Supervision and Care

  • Provide attentive supervision for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children in a small group childcare setting.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision of children at all times, including during play, meals, rest periods, and transitions between activities.
  • Ensure the number and ages of children in care remain within Oregon license-exempt childcare requirements.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to children's needs including comfort, safety, toileting, feeding, and emotional support.
  • Use developmentally appropriate practices when interacting with children and supporting early learning.

Environment and Safety

  • Share responsibility for maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy childcare environment that meets applicable Oregon childcare health and safety standards.
  • Maintain a receptive and nurturing atmosphere through open communication and positive interactions with children and families.
  • Follow established health, sanitation, illness, and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor the classroom and play areas to ensure safety and reduce hazards.

Program Activities

  • Support children’s development through age-appropriate activities including:
  • Small and large group experiences
  • Choice time and play-based learning
  • Music and movement
  • Large and small motor activities
  • Social-emotional skill development
  • Mealtimes and transitions between activities

  • Respect the confidentiality of information about Juniper Tree Counseling children and families, staff and personnel matters, and agency operations.
  • Exercise tact, courtesy, and diplomacy when interacting with employees, families, contractors, vendors, and others while enhancing the organization’s professional image.
  • Communicate in a respectful and professional manner with coworkers and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete designated job tasks, special projects, and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in required training, safety procedures, and program documentation.
  • Demonstrate accountability, engagement, and responsibility for achieving program goals and maintaining a high-quality childcare environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Qualified candidates will have education and/or experience necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.

  • Knowledge of child development, particularly infant and preschool development.
  • Ability to observe, identify, and respond to children’s developmental needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with children, staff, and families.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Ability to make decisions independently while following established policies and safety practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited direction while also functioning as part of a collaborative team.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and professional integrity.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and electronic timekeeping systems.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Prior to hire and continuously during employment — enrollment in the Criminal Background Registry through the Oregon Department of Early Learning and Care.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening if required by agency policy.
  • Maintain required annual health and safety training.
  • Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Maintain a current Food Handler’s Card if food is prepared or served.

Education & Experience

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or a Child Development Associate (CDA).
  • Early childhood certificate or participation in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO).
  • Experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool children.

An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

  • Continuous mental and visual attention required to ensure child safety and respond appropriately to children's needs.
  • Work may involve diversified tasks requiring constant awareness of the environment and supervision of children.

Working Conditions

The employee may experience the following conditions:

  • Moderate noise typical of a childcare environment
  • Active indoor play and occasional outdoor activities

Work is generally performed under safe working conditions, although exposure to the above elements may occur during normal childcare activities.

Availability and Attendance

Due to the nature of childcare supervision and safety requirements, consistent on-site attendance is essential.

  • Regular and consistent attendance is required.
  • Work hours occur during Juniper Tree Counseling’s normal business hours.
  • Employees must be physically present to ensure adequate supervision and care of children.

Pay: $30,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
