Juniper Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation is seeking a compassionate and skilled PRN Respiratory Therapist (RRT/CRT) to join our healthcare team. This flexible, as-needed position provides expert respiratory care to our residents in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.

The ideal candidate is a dedicated respiratory care professional who is passionate about improving residents’ quality of life through exceptional clinical care, collaboration, and education. As a PRN Respiratory Therapist, you will work alongside nursing, rehabilitation, and medical teams to support residents with acute and chronic respiratory conditions while promoting comfort, safety, and optimal health outcomes.

Position Summary

The PRN Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, treating, monitoring, and supporting residents with respiratory needs at Juniper Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. This role plays an important part in maintaining respiratory health, preventing complications, responding to changes in resident condition, and providing individualized, resident-centered care.

The Respiratory Therapist collaborates with physicians, nursing leadership, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care and effective treatment plans.

Key ResponsibilitiesResident Assessment & Respiratory Care
  • Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments and ongoing evaluations of residents.

  • Monitor respiratory status, including oxygen saturation, lung sounds, respiratory effort, airway function, and overall respiratory condition.

  • Develop and implement individualized respiratory care interventions in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team.

  • Recognize changes in resident condition and communicate findings promptly to nursing staff and providers.

Respiratory Treatments & Therapy Management
  • Administer prescribed respiratory treatments, including oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, inhaled medications, and other respiratory therapies.

  • Set up, monitor, and manage CPAP, BiPAP, and other non-invasive respiratory support equipment as ordered.

  • Perform airway clearance techniques and chest physiotherapy when appropriate.

  • Evaluate treatment effectiveness and communicate resident response and concerns to the appropriate clinical team members.

Resident & Family Education
  • Educate residents and families regarding respiratory conditions, medications, equipment use, and treatment plans.

  • Provide guidance on breathing techniques, airway clearance strategies, and respiratory wellness practices.

  • Support residents in managing respiratory conditions and improving overall quality of life.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate resident care.

  • Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.

  • Support respiratory management for residents receiving comfort-focused, palliative, or end-of-life care when appropriate.

Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of respiratory assessments, treatments, interventions, and resident progress.

  • Document changes in respiratory status and communicate significant findings appropriately.

  • Follow Juniper Gardens Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation policies, professional standards, infection prevention practices, and applicable state and federal regulations.

Respiratory Equipment Management
  • Inspect, maintain, clean, and troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment.

  • Ensure respiratory equipment is safe, functional, and available for resident care.

  • Follow equipment safety procedures and infection control protocols.

  • Report equipment issues promptly.

Emergency Response
  • Respond promptly to respiratory emergencies and significant changes in resident condition.

  • Assist with airway management, CPR, and emergency interventions within the scope of practice.

  • Collaborate with the clinical team to provide timely and effective emergency care.

QualificationsEducation & Licensure
  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

  • Current Respiratory Therapist license in the state of practice.

  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).

  • Current BLS certification required.

  • ACLS certification preferred.

Experience
  • Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or acute care preferred.

  • Experience caring for residents with chronic respiratory conditions and managing non-invasive ventilation preferred.

Skills & Abilities
  • Strong respiratory assessment and clinical decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

  • Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Commitment to compassionate, resident-centered care.

Work Schedule
  • PRN (As Needed)

  • Flexible scheduling based on facility needs.

  • Coverage opportunities may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call availability.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, push, and pull throughout the workday.

  • Ability to assist with resident care and mobility needs as required.

  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately during emergency situations.

  • Ability to work in an environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases while following established safety and infection prevention procedures.
