Title: Director of Development

Reports to: Vice President of Development

FLSA: Exempt

Location: Hybrid – Palm Beach County (in-person events and meetings required)

Position Overview


Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast (JAPBTC) seeks an experienced, mission-driven, and dynamic Director of Development to lead and support fundraising strategy, special events, grant writing, and communications in close collaboration with the Vice President of Development.


This role plays a key part in advancing JAPBTC’s mission by helping to drive philanthropic growth, community engagement, and brand visibility. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and relationship-oriented, with the ability to balance strategic planning and hands-on execution. The Director will work collaboratively across teams and with community partners to achieve fundraising goals, manage events, secure grant funding, and elevate JAPBTC’s message through compelling communications.


Primary Responsibilities


Fundraising, Development & Grants

  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Development & CEO, develop and implement a comprehensive annual fundraising plan to support JAPBTC’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Partner with the VP of Development & CEO to cultivate and steward relationships with corporate partners, individual donors, foundations, and community stakeholders.
  • Research, write, and submit grant proposals and reports to corporations, foundations, and government entities; maintain a grants calendar to ensure timely submissions and compliance.
  • Co-lead sponsorship solicitation and fulfillment for major programs and events, ensuring timely communication and recognition.
  • Coordinate annual giving campaigns, year-end appeals, and other special fundraising initiatives in partnership with the Development team.
  • Track and report fundraising and grant performance metrics, maintaining accurate donor and funder records in the donor management CRM.
  •  Support the VP of Development & CEO in donor meetings, proposals, presentations, and stewardship activities.


Event Management

  • Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Development to plan, manage, and execute JAPBTC’s signature and third-party events.
  • Partner on all aspects of event logistics, including venue selection, vendor relationships, budgets, ticketing, guest management, timelines, and onsite coordination.
  • Manage and support the procurement, organization, and promotion of silent and live auctions, including the use of online auction platforms.
  • Collaborate with corporate and community partners to enhance event sponsorship and maximize engagement opportunities.
  • Lead volunteer committees in partnership with the VP of Development, ensuring alignment of events with JAPBTC’s brand standards and fundraising objectives.


Marketing & Communications

  • In coordination with the Vice President of Development, design and execute strategic marketing and communication plans to elevate JAPBTC’s visibility and impact.
  • Oversee and produce e-newsletters, press releases, social media content, and website updates that support development, grant, and program goals.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging and adherence to JA USA’s visual and editorial guidelines across all materials.
  • Create compelling written and visual content to support fundraising campaigns, events, and community engagement.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Development to manage media relations, identify new opportunities for visibility, and strengthen relationships with media outlets and community partners.
  • Partner with the program and education teams to share student, volunteer, and partner success stories that demonstrate impact.


Preferred Skills & Qualifications

  • Passion for education, including Junior Achievement’s three pillars: workforce readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, nonprofit management, or a related field.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, event management, and communications (preferably in the nonprofit sector).
  • Demonstrated success in writing, submitting, and securing grants from foundations, corporations, or government sources.
  • Proven track record of executing successful fundraising campaigns and events in a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., Blackbaud, Raiser’s Edge), Canva or Adobe Creative Suite, and social media management tools.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for events.
  • Collaborative, team-first mindset with strong strategic and problem-solving skills.
