What's your day like?

As a Full-Time Asphalt Plant Utility Person at JT Russell & Sons, Inc., you will engage in a variety of essential general labor duties such as shoveling, sweeping, and utilizing a wheelbarrow to maintain an efficient work environment. You will operate small equipment, including a skid steer, to support plant production and assist with the repair and maintenance of machinery. The role requires a commitment to keeping the grounds clean and attractive year-round while performing basic maintenance tasks. You will handle minor equipment repairs and relay any significant maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel. Abiding by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as adhering to company safety procedures, is crucial.

Effective communication is essential; you must be able to understand work directions and convey information clearly. A keen attention to detail and situational awareness will help maintain safety on the construction site, while your ability to follow both verbal and written instructions will ensure tasks are completed efficiently.

Physical stamina is critical, as you will need to stand for long periods, bend, stoop, and lift up to 90 pounds regularly. You should also be able to navigate the work environment safely, including climbing on and off heavy mobile equipment. A strong aptitude for teamwork, along with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, is necessary.

Lastly, reliability and respectful interaction with co-workers and the public are vital to fostering a positive workplace culture.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

• Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
• Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required; Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and, at times; Manual dexterity to push a wheelbarrow, use hand tools such as shovel, rake, and pick-axe
• Normal start time 6:30 am however flexible hours required; Must be able to work nights and weekends when required
• Reliable transportation to and from the Lexington Plant
