Job Summary
Job Summary
The Dean of Students oversees student attendance, discipline, and campus safety, working closely with faculty, staff, and families to support positive student behavior and uphold school standards. This role serves on the Administrative Team and reports directly to the Principal. Key Responsibilities: - Oversee student attendance, including tracking absences, issuing tardies/readmits, maintaining records, and communicating with parents - Enforce the student code of conduct, including dress standards, behavior expectations, and disciplinary actions (detention, probation, suspension) - Supervise student conduct during the school day, at events, and in extracurricular activities - Coordinate and assign campus supervision duties (before/after school, lunch, events) in collaboration with administration and security - Communicate with and support parents, students, and faculty in resolving behavioral issues - Counsel students on academic, behavioral, and personal matters; refer to counseling as needed - Support faculty in implementing effective classroom management practices - Oversee student logistics, including locker assignments and vehicle registration - Serve on Discipline and Academic Review Committees - Act as liaison with law enforcement and the surrounding community - Manage Dean’s Office operations, including recordkeeping, budget oversight, and lost & found - Lead faculty orientation and ongoing training on attendance, discipline, and supervision policies - Participate in administrative meetings and support broader school initiatives
Requirements / Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Must be able to assess situations and use judgement to apply logical and appropriate responses/outcomes that are consistent and suitable for both similar but also unique situations - Must be knowledgeable and remain current and up-to-date on school issues, regulations pertaining to students, parents and staff and ensure school compliance with same - Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to clearly communicate guidelines, actions and outcomes to students, staff and patents - Strong time management and organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks and projects and meet critical deadlines - Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office suite Education & Experience - Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, psychology or equivalent field, Master’s degree desirable or a valid California teaching credential authorizing K-12 service - Minimum of (5) years’ prior disciplinary experience in an educational or related business environment
