Position Summary
The Mechanic Apprentice will assist experienced diesel mechanics with the maintenance and repair of tractors, trailers, and heavy-duty equipment. This position is designed for individuals looking to build a long-term career in diesel mechanics through hands-on training and mentorship.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Assist certified diesel mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance services, including:
Oil and filter changes
Greasing chassis components
Fluid inspections and replacements
Tire inspections and air pressure checks
Learn to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and air brake systems.
Assist with brake, suspension, steering, and drivetrain repairs.
Help perform DOT inspections and preventative maintenance services.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Properly use shop equipment and hand tools.
Complete work orders and maintenance documentation accurately.
Follow all OSHA and company safety procedures.
Participate in ongoing training and skill development.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn.
Previous automotive, farm equipment, or diesel experience is a plus but not required.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
Strong work ethic, dependable attendance, and positive attitude.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Valid driver's license required.
CDL or willingness to obtain one is a plus.
Preferred Skills
Basic understanding of diesel engines.
Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods.
Work in varying weather conditions and shop environments.
Safely operate shop equipment and tools.
