Craft: Asphalt Milling Laborer
Reports To: Milling Foreman
Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Milling Ground Hand supports the milling crew by performing ground-level tasks to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate milling operations. This role works closely with the Milling Foreman and Operators to maintain workflow, prepare the jobsite, and ensure proper cleanup and traffic control.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with daily milling operations by supporting equipment operators and the crew.
Remove raised pavement markers and prepare roadway prior to milling.
Use shovels, brooms, blowers, and other hand tools to clean and maintain work areas.
Set up traffic control devices, signage, cones, and safe work zones.
Mark milling limits and depths using paint, tape, or flags as instructed.
Communicate with operators to guide trucks, maintain safe distances, and coordinate movements.
Assist with loading and unloading equipment and securing materials.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment around milling machines and trucks.
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.
Knowledge & Skills
Basic understanding of milling or road construction preferred.
Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Awareness of work zone safety and traffic control.
Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
Reliable, punctual, and safety-focused.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and exposure to loud environments.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform manual labor for extended periods.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Previous road construction or labor experience is a plus.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
