Job Summary: The Manager of Forensic Nursing Services provides direct supervision to Forensic Nursing staff both full time and on call positions by managing the unit’s daily activities, including staffing, scheduling, rounding and resources. This position provides oversight for the delivery of quality forensic patient care throughout the nursing processes.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Responsible for the development, coordination, recruitment, orientation and evaluation of the Forensic Nursing Services Department, (FNSD) including education activities related to forensic nursing.
- Works collaboratively with the Departmental Executive Director and Medical Director & participates in long range planning, program development, budgeting, goal setting and evaluation of the FNSD.
- Conducts fiscal operations, including billing/reimbursement management, budget planning, expenditures, rate for service and coordinating financial reporting.
- Works with the JPS Foundation to seek out opportunities for additional funding resources.
- Aware of regulatory standards, requirements and assists in facilitation of implementation and compliance regarding forensic nursing services, medical forensic record management, contracts and MOU’s.
- Develops and maintains appropriate departmental policies and guidelines related to the FNSD.
- Participates in the interviewing, hiring, training and evaluation process of the FNSD staff.
- Functions as a role model in patient care and provides a high level of clinical expertise by maintaining knowledge of current clinical concepts, laws and efficiency related to the forensic nurse role and acts as a resource and educator to participants and others within the network and outside agencies.
- Establishes annual competencies and initiate participation of quality assurance goals with forensic nurses.
- Schedules monthly FNSD meetings and distributes other written communication to ensure that necessary information has been distributed among staff members.
- Prepares monthly full time and on call schedule and communicates schedule needs to ensure 24/7 coverage.
- Testifies in court as an expert in forensic nursing and assists other nurses in preparing for court testimony.
- Works collaboratively with Law Enforcement, District Attorney’s, Attorney General’s Office and local Victim’s Advocacy Centers in providing a multi-disciplinary approach to forensic health care to the community we serve.
- Maintains ongoing collaborative relationship within the ED and other departments within the organization to ensure the highest level care of the forensic patient.
- Works within the community to educate on forensic nurse services and violence prevention.
- Maintains supplies and equipment as needed to conduct forensic examinations.
