Job Description
Description: The Pharmacist Supervisor – outpatient provides direction and guidance to Pharmacists and/or certified pharmacy technicians to ensure safe and efficient medication dispensing.
Typical Duties
- Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, training, competency development, performance feedback and termination.
- Monitors staff activity and productivity. Makes staff assignments to ensure coverage of all areas and functions as a resource for the pharmacy staff.
- Monitors and evaluates compliance with performance standards for key department process. Assists in developing performance reports and analyzes patterns of variance and implements strategies for process improvement projects.
- Provides accurate and timely drug information and education to patients, families, nursing and other clinical staff.
- Manages difficult or emotional patients, responds timely to customer needs, solicits patient feedback to improve service and ensures highest patient satisfaction.
- Handle escalated patient issues, ensuring the appropriate resources are involved.
- Functions as a clinical resource for pharmacy staff.
- Represents the department in interdepartmental/district meetings as required.
- Provides technical support of drug distribution services for all outpatients.
- Ensures medication management processes meet all legal and regulatory requirements. Assists with monthly reporting.
- Ensures completion and accuracy of required documentation and record keeping.
- Performs all other job related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (BS Pharm) or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from an accredited College of Pharmacy
- Two plus years of experience in pharmacy
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Pharmacy license from Texas State Board of Pharmacy or eligible for same.
- Preceptor with the State Board of Pharmacy
