Job Description
Job Summary: The Emergency Medical Tech I performs various technical duties and tasks which include assisting with direct and indirect treatment and care of patients.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities
- Performs EKGs, venipuncture (not applicable to the Emergency Department), IV skills, and bedside testing.
- Provides emergency first aid treatment.
- Responds to medical emergencies.
- Performs basic patient care with consideration for age and developmental stage.
- Transports patients by wheelchair or stretcher.
- Notifies nurse of abnormal findings or changes in patient status.
- Performs clerical functions.
- Accesses and navigates through Epic.
- Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of the Basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P) curriculum as defined by the State of Texas.
- State Registration as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B TX) or Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P).
- Current JPS-recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- 4779 EMT I: 0 -1.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4780 EMT II: 2-4.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4781 EMT III: 5-9.99 years of relevant experience.
- 4782 EMT IV: 10 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Level 1 EKG Competency (subsequent to hire).
