The world-class Corporate Communications team at JPMorganChase is seeking an experienced public affairs communications professional to design media engagement strategies to advocate for U.S. public policies that will grow the economy, promote free enterprise, and support the financial needs of consumers, businesses and communities. 

 

As the Policy & Advocacy Media Relations Vice President within the Policy and Advocacy Communications team, you will collaborate with the Global Government Relations team, encompassing Federal Government Relations, State Government Relations, and Regulatory Affairs. You will act as an on-the-record spokesperson for the firm, fostering and sustaining relationships with media and opinion leaders who focus on financial services policy issues in the U.S. Additionally, you will coordinate with trade associations that advocate for the industry’s interests in Washington, D.C., and state legislatures nationwide.

 

Job responsibilities

 

  • Provide media engagement recommendations to support issue advocacy.
  • Engage directly with press on- and off- the record; engage in crisis communications planning and response.
  • Cultivate meaningful relationships with a broad array of reporters, editors, opinion columnists, and producers across the evolving media landscape.
  • Draft official, public-facing materials in response to key public policy issues.
  • Identify opportunities in the media that allow us to share our story and shape key policy debates.
  • Support messaging and content development to inform and engage elected officials, non-profit organizations and other issue-specific experts.
  • Prepare senior executives for public appearances related to public policy.
  • Track and analyze public conversations around issues to inform communications and advocacy strategy.
  • Partner closely with functions across the firm to ensure alignment of messaging and strategy.

 

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

 

  • 7 years of experience in public affairs, issue advocacy, or political campaigns; Financial services industry experience 
  • Ability to develop creative pitches and effectively tell stories through the press.
  • On-the-record experience managing high-profile policy debates in the press. 
  • Excellent crisis communications skills and ability to demonstrate leadership through chaos.
  • Experience in providing counsel to senior executives or public-facing officials.
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to develop talking points for internal and external audiences and exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency across social media and alternative media channels with a proven ability to tap them to protect reputation and advocate for policy priorities.
  • Well-developed strategy and planning skills and experience leading public positioning in the press.
  • Superior judgment, with ethics of the highest caliber.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize high volume, high priority initiatives.
  • Ability to tackle new initiatives and projects with energy, eagerness and creativity; a proactive, self-starter who can work independently and of a larger team.

 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Financial services industry experience with a focus on financial services regulatory and legislative issues
