What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Camp Assistant Educator position at Journey Nature School?
Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Summer Camp Assistant Educator to join our team for Summer Camps in June (3 weeks), July (3 weeks), and August (2 weeks). As an Assistant Educator, you will play a vital role in shaping the lives of children and providing them with a strong foundation for their education in our nature immersive setting. This position offers an opportunity to work in an alternative educational setting with a focus on early childhood education while outdoors.
Duties:
-Attendance is necessary for agreed upon camp dates
-Observe, facilitate, and reflect on learning experiences with JNS students, using these moments as the guide for future learning experiences.
- Support Lead Educators in facilitating learning and development in alignment with teaching philosophies such as Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme.
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, ensuring their well-being and welfare at all times.
- Foster a positive and inclusive outdoor classroom environment that prioritizes engagement and collaboration among students, both as individuals and community members.
- Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- On-the-job training
Experience:
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a preschool or early childhood education setting, or path toward education or family based studies (limited experience is acceptable)
- Willingness to learn about Montessori and other related principles and practices is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues
- Ability to adapt and reflect with other educators
- Proficiency in behavior management techniques to create a positive classroom environment
-ensure all students are safe, supervised, and accounted for within the context of the outdoor classroom
Requirements:
-High School Diploma or equivalent (or in progress if 16 )
- Pass background checks as required by state regulations
Preferences:
-Any childcare, babysitting, preschool training certifications
- First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
This Assistant Educator Position is for 3 morning half-days a week (Tue, Wed, Thu).
