Position Summary:
The Journeyman Carpenter is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work with minimal supervision, including framing, rough carpentry, and finish work. The role requires strong technical skill, the ability to read and work from plans independently, and the judgment to solve problems in the field. The Journeyman Carpenter will work under the general direction of the Site Supervisor or Owner, while directing laborers and apprentices on assigned tasks.
Primary Duties:
- Perform skilled carpentry work across framing, rough carpentry, and finish work with minimal direction.
- Read and work from blueprints, specifications, and project drawings independently.
- Lay out and execute work to precise measurements and code requirements.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and standard construction equipment safely, including saws, drills, grinders, and more.
- Coordinate with project supervisors, subcontractors, and laborers on-site to keep work on schedule.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues in the field, proposing solutions before they become delays.
- Direct and mentor laborers or apprentices on assigned tasks.
- Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using tools such as a tape measure, chalk, and marking gauges.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site in compliance with OSHA standards.
- Accurately track and report hours, materials used, and progress.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulations to maintain a safe work environment.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats (when required), gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Owner to support the completion of construction projects.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 4-5 years of hands-on carpentry/construction experience at a journeyman level.
- Strong working knowledge of framing, rough and finish carpentry; broader trade exposure (concrete, layout, etc.) a plus.
- Ability to read blueprints and construction documents independently.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team, and to direct others.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform heavy lifting and manual labor.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions.
- OSHA 10 certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Experience:
- 4-5 years of carpentry/construction experience required, at a demonstrated journeyman skill level.
- Experience on public/prevailing wage projects a plus.
- Willingness to undertake continued training as necessary.
Work Environment:
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Physically demanding tasks, including lifting, carrying, and standing for long periods.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times.
Schedule:
- Full-time position with standard working hours from 6:00am to 4:30pm, M-Th.
- Hours may fluctuate due to project needs and location.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on project needs.

Pay: $26.00 - $35.00 per hour
