What are the responsibilities and job description for the Real Estate Photographer position at Jordan Wyatt Ashley?
We are looking to add a talented photographer / videographer contractor to our team! You must have excellent customer service skills, be passionate about capturing photos and creating video, have strong attention to detail, be trustworthy, reliable, consistent, and thrive in an autonomous work environment.
About Us
We are a young real estate photography startup that creates home photography, video, drone imagery, 3D tours, and more for local realtors to help them effectively market and sell their listings!
We shot our first home in July 2020 and since then have worked with almost 300 realtors in the greater KC area!
Given the nature of the real estate industry and the fact that we’re such a young company, our job is filled with lots of fun challenges and opportunities. If you’ve always wanted to work in an environment like this with lots of responsibility/autonomy then we’re finding each other at the right time. Our goal is to grow into a small, highly skilled team and to capture a large share of our market. With quick growth comes lots of opportunity for more responsibility and higher earnings.
If joining a team like this and growing a young business sounds like a fun adventure then you may be perfect for this job!
About the Position
This position is part-time with the potential for full-time hours. As our company grows so will your workload, your # of shoots, and your earnings. This job pairs well with another part-time job, if needed, to supplement the natural downswings in the market.
As a photographer for Jordan Wyatt Ashley LLC you will be driving around the KC area shooting homes for sale for our realtor clients. We shoot small homes to large estates and create a range of media from standard photography to video, drone, 3D tours, floor plans, and more. We work with a team of editors and service providers to handle all of our post production so our photographers can focus on capturing compelling media and providing excellent customer service while keeping work within business hours.
Your typical day-to-day will look like this:
- Wake up and review your calendar for the day’s assigned shoots. (Finalized by 8pm the night before)
- Hop in the car and drive from shoot to shoot capturing compelling media.
- Stop in your favorite lunch spot or coffee shop between shoots (if time).
- Return home and upload the media to our editors for it to be completed overnight.
Training
You will be fully trained on each required skill and workflow so that our media is consistently excellent throughout the team.
Equipment
Owning your own equipment (camera, tripod, drone) or being willing to invest in your gear is a big plus but, if not, equipment can be provided on a rental or rent to own agreement.
Pay
We pay our photographers on a per shoot basis, based on a percentage of the total shoot value - so the more you work the more you earn! For reference, our minimum value shoot is $140 and takes 25-45 minutes to complete. Our high value shoots with photos, video, drone, etc. can be worth $800 or more and be completed in a single morning or afternoon.
On average, our photographers earn between $500-$1,000 per week.
Please note, this industry is seasonal so it's busy in the warmer months and slow during the winter months.
Preferred Qualities & Skills
- Excellent customer service - I rank this higher than photography skills because excellent customer service is our secret sauce and competitive advantage. Therefore, every member of our team must be friendly, patient, kind, and flexible with our clients. If this doesn’t describe you then we will not be a good fit. Experience as a server or in a customer service role is a huge plus!
- Photography skills - someone who is proficient in the use of DSLR/mirrorless cameras, drones, gimbals AND expert in photography/videography principles like composition, the exposure triangle, 180 shutter rule, audio, etc. Having an eye for detail will help you stand out among other applicants.
- Must be passionate about photography and filmmaking - We’re looking for someone who enjoys taking photos, making videos, and being a creator because they love to do it.
- Someone who is a self-starter that can take on a lot of responsibility and work autonomously - We feel that people work their best when they’re not micromanaged. This job is perfect for that as you’ll be driving around town on your own completing your jobs without any supervision, so responsibility and trustworthiness are key attributes of our team members.
- Must be flexible and willing to work with client’s needs and evolving schedules - The real estate industry is fast-paced and things can change quickly. Our strategy as excellent customer service providers is to roll with the punches and help our clients succeed.
- High performer - With our ambitious goals and small team we’re looking for someone who enjoys working hard and takes pride and ownership in the work they do.
- Technically proficient with camera equipment, mobile devices, desktop computers, Google Apps, social media, web based services, etc.
- Having your own camera, tripod, gimbal, and drone are preferred but arrangements can be made.
- Honesty, reliability, integrity, and trustworthiness are a must - With so much autonomy, responsibility, and little supervision our team and our clients must be able to trust you to do the right thing. Without these core attributes new companies don’t survive.
- Must be prompt and punctual - this is crucial in providing excellent customer service.
Level of education and years of experience aren’t important to us. What is important to us is that you can produce excellent work, do what you say you will, and be honest and reliable.
Requirements
- Must have required equipment: camera, wide angle lens, tripod, drone, gimbal, etc. (If not, it may be possible to rent/rent-to-own a complete kit.)
