YMCA After School Program Site Director

The Joplin Family YMCA is seeking positive, dependable leaders to serve as School Site Directors in our After School Program. This position is a great opportunity for individuals pursuing education, child development, recreation, or related fields, as well as those with experience working with children who want to grow their leadership skills.

As a School Site Director, you will oversee the daily operations of an assigned YMCA After School location, provide leadership to program staff, and create a safe, structured, and engaging environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

Position Summary

The School Site Director is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of a YMCA After School Program located at an elementary school in Joplin, Webb City, or Carl Junction. Working under the direction of the YMCA Child Care Director, this position provides on-site leadership by supervising staff, supporting children, communicating with families and school personnel, and ensuring compliance with YMCA policies, Child Care Director expectations, and Missouri child care licensing regulations.

Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Currently enrolled in college with a minimum of 60 completed credit hours, including at least 12 hours in child-related courses, or
• Hold a degree in education, child development, or a related field.
• Must successfully pass required background screenings.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, child care, camp, or youth program setting
• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
• Ability to provide guidance and direction to program staff
• Ability to follow YMCA policies, program expectations, and state licensing requirements
• Ability to build positive relationships with children, families, school personnel, and coworkers

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the on-site supervisor for an assigned YMCA After School location.
• Supervise, support, and provide direction to Assistant Site Directors and Program Aides.
• Implement program expectations and directives established by the Child Care Director.
• Plan and lead engaging activities that support children's academic, social, and emotional development.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants through active supervision.
• Maintain attendance records, student accountability, and required program documentation.
• Follow YMCA policies, Missouri child care licensing regulations, and safety procedures.
• Communicate professionally with families, school staff, and YMCA leadership.
• Collect and deliver weekly program supplies and materials as needed.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development opportunities.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to actively supervise children in indoor and outdoor environments.
• Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, kneel, and participate in activities with children.
• Must be able to lift or carry up to 20 pounds, including program supplies and equipment.
• Must be able to respond appropriately to safety concerns and emergencies.

Work Hours

• Monday–Thursday: 2:30 PM–6:00 PM
• Friday: varies based on school location
• Additional hours may be required for staff meetings, trainings, program preparation, and supply pickup/drop-off.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
