Criminal Defense Attorney Responsibilities:
- Manage a full caseload of criminal matters, including misdemeanors, DUIs, drug offenses, domestic violence, property crimes, and select felony cases.
- Represent clients in bond hearings, preliminary hearings, plea negotiations, motions, bench trials, and jury trials.
- Conduct in-depth case evaluations, legal research, and review evidence to determine defense strategies.
- Draft and file motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and other necessary documents.
- Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates, manage expectations, and guide them through the legal process.
- Negotiate with prosecutors to pursue reduced charges, dismissals, or favorable plea agreements.
- Collaborate with investigators, expert witnesses, and the internal legal team when preparing cases for trial.
- Advocate for clients in court with professionalism, preparedness, and confidence.
- Maintain accurate case notes, documentation, and compliance with firm procedures.
Criminal Defense Attorney Requirements:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
- Active and good-standing license to practice law in South Carolina.
- 1–5 years of criminal law experience preferred.
- Litigation and courtroom experience is highly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, research, and legal writing skills.
- Ability to manage a fast-paced caseload with professionalism and efficiency.
- Exceptional communication skills and client-centered approach.
