What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Skate Guard position at Joliet Park District?
FLSA Classification: Non Exempt, Part Time
Salary Range: $15/hr
Reports to: Skate School Supervisor
Date: November 2025
Summary
The Junior Skate Guard works in a wide array of areas in the ice arena including but not limited to freestyles, public skate, classes, and special events; ensuring safe operations both on and off ice. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties

- Maintain proper paper work and collection of tickets, passes, fees, and/or receipts
- Aids in the general maintenance and upkeep of the ice arena
- Assists in operation of music and public address systems
- Knows emergency procedures for equipment and evacuation plan
- Provides support for main staff instructors during classes
- Ensure that customers skate in a safe manner and following rules as posted
- Pay attention to inexperienced skaters needing assistance
- Give out verbal warnings and remove skaters from the ice that do not follow rules or instructions
- Aid skaters that fall on public skate
- Tie skates for class students in need of assistance
- Enforce the rules listed in the lobby
- Perform other duties as assigned
Hours
Part time hours may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment
The position is primarily indoors and on the ice rink. When working in the Ice Arena, the environment is always cold.

Must be able to work long hours, at many times standing. Ability to lift 50 pounds and lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 75 pounds occasionally. Frequently lifting and carrying objects up to 50 pounds. Must be able to perform moderately to heavy physically intensive tasks, potentially including any combination of the following: climbing, balancing, stooping, sitting, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, repetitive motions, substantial movements (motions) of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Education and Experience
Some high school education required
Additional Eligibility Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age or older
- Knowledge of Learn to Skate USA and/or ISI
- Awareness of safety precautions needed in an ice-skating program
- Skills in problem solving and decision making
- Skills in oral and written communication
- Ability to Skate
