Summary 
Under the direct supervision of the Dean of Fire Programs, this position is responsible for delivering a comprehensive Fire Protection education program focused on high-quality instruction and student success. The role involves instructional, planning, and coordination duties, including the development, scheduling, and delivery of curriculum courses, in-service training, and support of Fire Academy instruction as needed. Additional responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials for Fire and Rescue training within the Continuing Education Division. Performs other related duties as assigned.Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Provides primary leadership, coordination, and instructional oversight for the Fire Protection Technology two-year Associate in Applied Science degree program, ensuring program quality, compliance, and student success.
  • Plans, coordinates, and delivers Fire and Rescue curriculum and in-service training using a variety of instructional modalities, including classroom, lab, hybrid, and field-based instruction.
  • Instructs, mentors, advises, and supports students in developing the professional knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary for successful employment and advancement in the fire service.
  • Develops, coordinates, and maintains curriculum, lesson plans, course outlines, syllabi, lectures, and instructional materials aligned with OSFM, accreditation standards, and industry best practices.
  • Designs and administers assessments, including tests, practical evaluations, projects, and case studies; evaluates student performance; maintains accurate grading records; and prepares required reports.
  • Maintains the security, integrity, and administration of OSFM testing materials in accordance with state and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides academic advising, student counseling, learning labs, and registration support to promote student retention, completion, and career readiness.
  • Selects and evaluates textbooks, instructional media, learning technologies, and educational resources to enhance student learning and program effectiveness.
  • Produces, maintains, and submits required program documentation, records, instructional plans, and reports for internal review and external accreditation or regulatory agencies.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, and instructional oversight for adjunct and part-time curriculum instructors, including mentoring, evaluation, and coordination of instructional delivery.
  • Teaches in the Fire/Rescue Academy and assists with academy instruction and training delivery as needed to support departmental operations and staffing needs.
  • Coordinates, observes, and evaluates in-service training classes and instructional activities to ensure instructional quality and consistency.
  • Actively recruits and promotes the Fire Protection Technology program and fire training programs, with a focus on outreach to diverse, underserved, and first-generation college populations.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with fire departments, emergency services agencies, industry partners, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders.
  • Serves on college, departmental, and program-specific committees; attends meetings, professional development activities, conferences, and seminars to remain current with industry trends and instructional best practices.
  • Demonstrates a forward-thinking, innovative approach with a commitment to continuous improvement, workforce alignment, and program growth.
  • Maintains regular office hours and remains accessible to students, with flexibility to accommodate student needs through scheduled consultations outside of standard hours.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and Associate Vice President in support of institutional goals and the continued growth of the Fire Division.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Firefighter Level I and II
  • Fire Instructor II, Qualified in Fire Fighter at a minimum
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field. 
  • Community College experience teaching adults.
  • Five years of experience with fire training. One year of experience with fire department supervision at a Company Officer level, such as a Captain.

Preferred Education and Experience Qualifications:   
  • Master’s Degree in related field.
  • Preferred Live Burn Instructor
  • Community College experience teaching adults.  
  • Ten years of experience with fire training.   Five years of experience with fire department supervision at a Company Officer level, such as a Captain.
Language Skills                   
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of descriptive data and information, such as policy manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before customers or employees of an organization.

Mathematical Skills                   
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability                  
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills                   
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Microsoft Office.  Ability to communicate promptly and effectively through email.

  • Firefighter Level I and II
  • Fire Instructor Level II Qualified

Salary : $66,924 - $86,616
