POSITION TITLE: JCHS Head Basketball Coach
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of bachelor’s degree preferred. Must be employed as a full-time teacher within Johnson County School System, attain employment with Johnson County Schools, or hold a valid Tennessee teaching license. Candidates without a current teaching position may be considered, with preference given to individuals who demonstrate the ability to contribute to the long-term growth, development, and sustainability of the basketball program and school community.
REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Supervisor
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Basketball season and off-season work
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Lead the JCHS Basketball Program and provide comprehensive oversight of all aspects of the program, including varsity, junior varsity, middle school collaboration, and youth development initiatives.
• Develop and implement a long-term vision for program growth and sustainability that promotes competitive success, student development, community support, and positive representation of Johnson County High School.
• Foster a culture that emphasizes character, integrity, accountability, discipline, leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect both on and off the court.
• Promote academic achievement and personal growth among student-athletes while supporting their preparation for post-secondary opportunities.
• Coordinate with the Athletic Director, Principal, Supervisor, faculty, parents, and community stakeholders to provide meaningful athletic experiences for student-athletes.
• Organize and supervise practices, games, camps, conditioning programs, skill development sessions, and offseason activities designed to improve individual and team performance.
• Establish and maintain a comprehensive player development system that supports student-athletes from youth basketball through the high school program.
• Recruit, supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches while ensuring consistency in program philosophy and expectations.
• Effectively communicate program goals, expectations, and student-athlete progress with players, parents, administration, faculty, and community members.
• Support and promote positive relationships between the basketball program, feeder schools, youth organizations, alumni, and community partners.
• Assist with the upkeep, organization, scheduling, and general maintenance of basketball facilities, equipment, and related resources.
• Coordinate fundraising efforts and community engagement initiatives that support the long-term success and sustainability of the basketball program in accordance with school and district policies.
• Diagnose and evaluate student-athlete abilities and progress in a timely and consistent manner.
• Ensure compliance with all TSSAA regulations, school board policies, and school procedures.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Abide by all state statutes, school board policies, and regulations.
• Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by administrators.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Serve as a positive role model for student-athletes and represent Johnson County High School with professionalism and integrity at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Athletic Director, or Supervisor.
