The Department of Pharmacy, consistent with the mission of Johns Hopkins Medicine, places a priority on teaching, research and patient care. At Johns Hopkins Hospital, the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical, surgical, oncology, and pediatric patients, with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department, there are 70 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to critically ill and medically complex neonatal patients within a Level IV NICU at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. As an embedded pharmacist on the neonatal care team, the Specialist will work closely with neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, and other multidisciplinary team members to support medication-related decision-making and optimize patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities include participation in daily multidisciplinary rounds, clinical review and verification of medication therapies, therapeutic drug monitoring, medication reconciliation, and development of individualized pharmacotherapy plans for neonatal patients. The Specialist will promote safe and effective medication use in a high-acuity environment while serving as a medication resource for providers, staff, patients, and families.

This role works in close partnership with the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center NICU and multidisciplinary care teams to support specialized neonatal care delivery, medication safety initiatives, and quality improvement efforts. Additional responsibilities include education and precepting of pharmacy students and residents, participation in research and scholarly activities, and involvement in interdisciplinary initiatives focused on advancing neonatal pharmacy practice and clinical nutrition support services.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm. D. degree, or B.S. and 1 year of experience required
  • Completion of an ASHP accredited residency program or equivalent experience is required, specialty residency in Pediatrics is preferred
  • Requires current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland
  • Board Certification through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties or a certification deemed appropriate for the practitioner’s practice setting by Division Director is required within 2 years of start date
  • Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days upon hire unless exempted by Division Director as beyond the scope of practice
  • BLS certification within 1 year of hire is required

Salary Range: Minimum $59.29/hour - Maximum $97.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
