Position Overview
Reporting to the owner/CEO, the Controller is a key member of the management team, providing both strategic and operational support. Responsible for overseeing the company’s financial operations, supporting basic information technology systems, and managing day-to-day facility functions. This is a hands-on role ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys variety and thrives in a fast-paced, small-business environment. The ideal candidate is as comfortable rolling up their sleeves to reconcile accounts and manage budgets as they are providing strategic advice to ownership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, ideally in a small or mid-sized service organization.
- Experience with IT coordination and vendor management is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Great Plains Dynamic (or similar), Microsoft Office Suite, and Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Hands-on, solutions-oriented approach to problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management (Primary Function)
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, budgeting, and monthly closings.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projections.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state tax and reporting requirements.
- Manage banking, insurance, and external accounting relationships.
- Support leadership in developing financial strategies and key performance metrics.
- Produce ad hoc reports as needed to support management and sales consultants.
IT Support and Systems Administration
- Provide basic first-line technical support for computers, printers, phones, and office network.
- Maintain and troubleshoot basic IT infrastructure, including internet connectivity and cloud-based systems.
- Coordinate with outside IT vendors to maintain system reliability, security, and data integrity.
- Support technology upgrades and the integration of new systems to enhance operational efficiency.
Facilities Management
- Oversee general day-to-day office operations and maintenance.
- Manage office leases, ISP, utilities, IT, and related contracts.
- Support staff with facility-related requests to maintain a productive, safe, and efficient work environment.
