Manager of Custodial and Event Services

This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that reports to the Director of Facilities and is located at the JWCC main campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position begins immediately.

JOB DESCRIPTION

John Wood Community College is seeking a Manager of Custodial and Event Services to oversee the custodial operations for the main campus and assist with management of custodial efforts at regional centers. This position plays a key leadership role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Manager is also the primary point of contact for all college event setups, ensuring timely coordination, setup, and tear-down of events across campus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise and schedule all full-time and part-time custodial employees on the main campus and assist with regional center custodial management.
• Maintain primary responsibility for the custodial budget, including supply ordering and cost control.
• Oversee all event setup and tear-down activities, assigning appropriate personnel and ensuring quality standards are met.
• Perform and oversee custodial tasks, including cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, general areas, windows, whiteboards, and floors; dusting; vacuuming; operating cleaning equipment; and removing trash and recyclables.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and college safety standards, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Identify and address safety hazards such as spills, trip hazards, and improper storage of materials.
• Train and mentor custodial staff on cleaning techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and appearance throughout college facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• 23 years of custodial experience required.
• 12 years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Supply ordering or budgeting experience a plus.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong leadership and communication abilities.
• Computer proficiency for supply ordering, timesheet approval, and scheduling.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, think critically, and proactively resolve issues.
• Commitment to safety and adherence to OSHA regulations.

Work Schedule:

• Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (8:00am 5:00pm) and Friday (8:00am 12:00pm).
• Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
