School Counselor - Long Term Substitute

Position is from approximately October 1, 2026 through Mid-March, 2027. Job Roles and Responsibilities: While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the School Counselor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administration may also assign other tasks deemed appropriate. •Maintain learning expectations of students at all times as fostered by the school. •Assist in building the classroom schedule to best prepare each student for a successful completion of academic requirements •Help with transition and planning from building to buildings within district •Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals and plans. •Recommend change of class or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed. •Process applications for Vocation Tech/Private Schools if applicable. •Actively participate in the Building Emergency Response Team and Child Study Team Meetings. •Counsel students whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition necessitates assistance. •Encourage parents and students to participate in the learning process through communication about students’ personal and academic progress. •Provide Tier 1 counseling and social skills interventions in an individual/group setting. •Consult with staff and parents regarding student concerns and refer to outside agencies as appropriate. •Background knowledge of and experience with students who have emotional disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other social/adjustment challenges. •Assists teachers and staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning. •Develop and implement a positive system of student recognition. •Ensure that all students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities. •Provide resources for faculty and families to address students’ needs. •Present results of testing of academic and SEI-related testing to staff and parents in a timely, effective, and professional manner. •Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all members of the school community to carry out responsibilities. •Provides the assigned student population the help needed to become acquainted with the educational programs, support services, policies and procedures, and facilities of the school system. •Provide counseling services as defined in student’s IEP and 504 plans. •Implements developmentally appropriate and prevention-oriented group activities to meet student needs and school goals. •Other duties as reasonably assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principals and/or Director of Student Services.
