CUSTODIAN
Job Summary
Custodian will, under supervision of the Director, Business & Facilities Services or designee and specific direction of the Lead Custodian, perform a wide variety of routine and responsible tasks relating to the custodian and minor maintenance operation of a school site.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of:
District policies and procedures as they apply; methods and practices of cleaning and repair of district equipment and furniture; operation of tools and equipment used in all phases of school cleaning; oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy; proper methods and operation of equipment and tools used in custodial work.
Performance Responsibility:
•Operate a variety of equipment, tools, and machines in a safe and proper manner.
•Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.
•Meet schedules and deadlines.
•Plan and organize work.
•Provide work direction to others as needed or assigned.
•Troubleshoot and repair/replace a variety of furniture and school equipment.
•Routine cleaning includes, but is not limited to: cleaning, scrubbing, sweeping, vacuuming, washing a variety of surfaces within the school environment.
•Work at various configurations.
•Performs minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
Experience and Education:
Graduation from high school or possession of GED required and one year of building custodial experience preferably in a school setting. Possession of a valid California drivers license.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
•Perform a wide variety of non-technical custodial services and repair tasks; interpret and apply rules and regulations as appropriate.
•Maintains school equipment and surfaces.
•Maintains a clean, orderly work area. Cleans, vacuums, sweeps, waxes, and maintains classrooms and other instructional areas.
•Operates a variety of cleaning equipment, tools and machines.
•Washes chalkboards, windows, walls and blinds.
•Maintains custodial equipment and supplies.
•May perform limited grounds maintenance work. May help clean in the kitchen as required.
•Stand for extended periods of time.
•See for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students.
•Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
•Communicate clearly and understand normal conversation.
•Bend and twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl.
•Lift 50 pounds.
•Carry 50 pounds.
•Operate equipment.
•Reach in all directions.
•Perform heavy physical labor.
