ASSISTANT REGISTRAR
The Assistant Registrar assists with maintaining the quality and content of all animal records. These include daily animal care records, animal transactions, animal inventories, compliance, licensing, and permitting documents. The Assistant Registrar helps to ensure that all records are consistent with the standards and requirements for accreditation, compliance, and effective planning and management of the animals in the Zoo’s care. Additionally, they are responsible for ensuring business continuity in the absence of the Registrar.
This is a Full-Time position. The pay range is: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT REGISTRAR AT JBZ
This position will assist in the logistics and preparation of paperwork required for the acquisition and disposition of animals in the Zoo’s care. Compile, generate, and distribute as requested and directed institutional data related to animals in the zoo’s care, both internally and externally. Assist in training staff in animal record keeping records management and data standards; confirming that daily reporting policies and procedures are followed. All while assisting with the provision of any data necessary for the management of AZA studbooks, AZA accreditation, USDA inspections, and requests from Species Survival Plan and Taxon Advisory Groups.

Qualifications For An Assistant Registrar At Jbz
- Affinity for the mission and values of John Ball Zoo
- College degree from an accredited institution in natural science, biology, zoology, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of basic collections records management standards and practices
- Basic understanding of wildlife laws and regulation specific to exhibition, breeding, and domestic and international transport
- Computer literacy and working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and basic database applications
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and show flexibility with daily responsibilities with minimal guidance
- Strong administrative, interpersonal, oral, organizational, and written communications skills
- Ability to interact positively and objectively with a wide array of individuals from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
- Flexibility to periodically work evenings or weekends throughout the year
