What is the position?
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive individual to join the procurement team as a Produce Buyer I. This role is vital to ensuring that high-quality produce is sourced, delivered efficiently, and maintained to meet customer expectations and business standards. You’ll operate in a dynamic environment that blends supply chain management, vendor relations, and quality assurance.
What are the responsibilities?
As a Produce Buyer I, you will:
- Execute and manage purchase orders, ensuring timely and accurate procurement of fresh inventory.
- Oversee product quality and vendor communications to maintain supply standards and secure necessary credits.
- Maintain system accuracy through the ERP platform and uphold documentation for contracts and vendors.
- Track inventory levels, adjust ordering as needed, and collaborate with operations to meet demand.
- Monitor and meet performance goals related to volume, margin, spoilage, and fill rate.
- Participate in an on-call weekend rotation with fellow buyers.
What are the requirements?
- Strong Excel and analytical skills are essential
- Effective critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Degree in supply chain/related field or supply chain experience is a plus
- Highly organized, responsive, and adaptable in fast-paced settings
- Experience with produce or perishable goods is a plus
- Familiarity with commodity buying beneficial
