Job Description:

Position: SAFe Scrum Master

Location: Washington DC (4 days onsite per week)

Overview

We are seeking a SAFe Scrum Master (Project Manager Standard Level 3) to provide Lean-Agile facilitation, delivery governance, and coaching for strategic finance and technology initiatives. The ideal candidate will enable predictable delivery outcomes across teams operating within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate core SAFe and team ceremonies:
    • Iteration Planning, Daily Team Sync, Backlog Refinement, Iteration Review, and Retrospectives.
    • Coordinate inputs/outputs with ART-level events, including PI Planning, System Demos, and Inspect & Adapt.
  • Enable continuous flow:
    • Visualize work, limit WIP, proactively remove impediments, and improve team throughput and predictability.
  • Coach on Agile practices and quality:
    • SAFe principles, Scrum/Kanban practices, Definition of Ready/Done, built-in quality, and relentless improvement.
  • Partner with the Product Owner:
    • Prioritize and refine the backlog, define acceptance criteria and NFRs, and ensure iteration and PI readiness.
  • Coordinate cross-team dependencies and risks:
    • Engage in Scrum of Scrums, maintain the program board, and track ROAMed risks and impediments.
  • Maintain tooling hygiene and reporting:
    • Manage boards, queries, dashboards, and traceability links in Azure DevOps (or equivalent).
  • Support governance and controls:
    • Ensure traceability from features/stories to tests and releases; capture required approvals to support security, audit, and SDLC controls (e.g., ICFR).
  • Assist with Release on Demand:
    • Prepare release notes, change records, rollback plans, and stakeholder communications; facilitate post-release verification and learning.
  • Foster a high-performance culture:
    • Promote transparency, psychological safety, data-driven decisions, and continuous improvement experiments with measurable outcomes.
Required Skills & Experience

  • 8 years delivering technology initiatives, with recent experience as a dedicated Scrum Master in SAFe or comparable Agile environments.
  • Proven facilitation of PI Planning and iteration ceremonies; experience coordinating cross-team dependencies and risks.
  • Expertise with Azure DevOps (or similar) for backlog management, reporting/dashboards, and end-to-end traceability.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean-Agile, Scrum, Kanban, built-in quality, and DevSecOps; hands-on with flow metrics (throughput, cycle time, WIP, predictability).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills; ability to coach teams and influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Understanding of enterprise governance and controls (e.g., security reviews, change management, segregation of duties, approvals).
