Position Overview
The Offset Press Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient operation and changeover of a large-format offset printing press. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain consistent print quality while meeting production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full machine make-ready procedures, including loading plates, ink, coating, and board.
- Set, control, and adjust machine functions (speed, ink/water settings, etc.).
- Verify raw materials are correct for each job based on docket and technical specifications.
- Inspect printed sheets at scheduled intervals to ensure quality standards are met.
- Complete periodic cleaning and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal press performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during production.
- Maintain accurate records of approved materials, defective units, and final product counts.
- Accurately document production and quality logs throughout the shift.
- Document all printed loads for both production and quality purposes.
- Prepare for and keep the press running during Feeder Operator breaks.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- 3 years of experience operating a wide-web or large-format offset printing press (preferably Heidelberg, sheet-fed, multi-color).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong leadership qualities, initiative, and a team-focused mindset.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving ability.
- Manufacturing environment with extended periods of standing.
- Frequent lifting of materials up to 15 lbs to waist level; occasional lifting up to chest level.
- No overhead lifting required; heavier loads require team lift or mechanical assistance.
- Mandatory PPE: safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, gloves, hair nets, and beard nets.
- Must be willing to work rotating 12-hour day/night shifts, including weekends and overtime as required.
