Local candidates preferred for onsite work in Lincoln, NE (or must be willing to relocate).

All interviews will also be conducted onsite.

This is a developer position that requires strong coding skills. The selection process will include assessments and onsite interviews to evaluate coding proficiency and problem-solving abilities.

The Department is seeking dedicated Application Developer to join our team of performance driven professionals in helping to build the best of applications in support of NDOT s business units. The Department utilizes Agile development methodology.

Requirements

• Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or hold a Technical Degree in Computer Science (or equivalent combination of education and minimum 5 years development experience).
• Explore and gain a thorough understanding of the business.
• Troubleshoot problems and provide support on existing products and services.
• Work as part of a software development team in the implementation of projects.
• Perform daily tasks of analysis, programming and testing as needed.
• Assist with, capturing business requirements, design, system architecture and development.
• Maintain legacy applications (minor new development) in Micro Focus Cobol, Cobol and CICS that interact with the Department's Information Systems.
• Must have most recent experience within the last year coding programs in COBOL.
• Experience with SQL utilizing DB2 accessing by programs, writing queries in QMF and creating tables is required.
• Experience with JCL and job scheduling is required.
• Experience in software development utilizing Agile with SCRUM is desired but not required.
• Perform front-end, middle-tier and back-end development.
• Skilled in troubleshooting and weighing relative costs and benefits of potential actions.
• Extremely detailed oriented and able to follow Department standards, methodologies, principles and processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Regular and reliable attendance is required.

• Cobol and CICS. (candidates MUST be able to develop in COBOL AND CICS - no exceptions)
• Job Control Language (JCL) and job scheduling.
• IBM mainframe (z/OS).
• TSO
• All aspects of the software development lifecycle and workflow.
• Visual Studio for source control.
• SQL (Structured Query Language).
• DB2
• QMF

Preferences

• Experience developing in Micro Focus Cobol using App Master Builder and Native COBOL will be given high preference.
• Experience with application development in highway inventory systems.
• Experience with SQL Server 2012 and higher.
• Experience with designing and building secure ASP.NET applications would give candidate ability to program in C# as well as COBOL.
• Experience with Web/Windows Services.
• Experience with SSRS reports.
• Experience with Agile development methodology of 2 years.
• Experience with Mainframe Migration (re-hosting or re-platform)
