Role Overview A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) is a customer-embedded software/infrastructure engineer who works directly at client sites (or in close collaboration) to implement, customize, integrate, troubleshoot, and optimize your company’s solutions in real-world environments. They bridge the gap between your product/services and the client’s specific needs, ensuring successful deployment, adoption, and value delivery. This role combines strong technical skills with customer-facing abilities and high ownership in ambiguous, high-stakes situations. Expect 30-60% travel or on-site time depending on client projects.
Key Responsibilities
Embed with clients to understand workflows, gather requirements, and scope custom solutions (integrations, automations, data pipelines, AI enhancements).
Own end-to-end project delivery: discovery → prototyping → production deployment → scaling → optimization.
Design and build custom integrations, APIs, connectors, dashboards, and workflows tailored to client systems (legacy or modern).
Troubleshoot live issues, optimize performance, handle data migrations, and ensure security/compliance.
Lead client workshops, train end-users, document solutions, and provide ongoing support.
Collaborate with internal product/engineering teams to relay feedback and influence improvements.
Act as the trusted technical advisor, driving adoption and identifying expansion opportunities.
Required Qualifications
8 years of total experience in the software engineering, deployment, or solutions experience (varies by level).
3 years of experience in Solution architecture, and design
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Strong customer communication and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with travel readiness.
