Distribution Engineer
We are seeking a Distribution Engineer to support the design, planning, and delivery of electrical distribution systems that power homes, businesses, and communities. What You'll Do
- Design and plan electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines, substations, transformers, and related equipment
- Perform engineering analyses such as load flow, fault, and voltage drop studies to assess system performance and capacity
- Support asset management efforts by maintaining equipment records and recommending maintenance, repair, or replacement strategies
- Specify and select distribution equipment, ensuring proper application, safety, and compliance
- Ensure designs meet utility standards, safety requirements, and regulatory codes
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, resiliency, and power quality
- Evaluate and design infrastructure for new customer connections and service upgrades
- Manage distribution projects from concept through construction, coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and vendors
- Support outage response and emergency restoration efforts as needed
- Leverage data from monitoring systems and smart grid technologies to inform engineering decisions
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred for advanced roles)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure, depending on role and region
- Experience with distribution system design and power system analysis tools
- Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD); GIS experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, protection schemes, and utility standards
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving grid technologies
- Work on impactful infrastructure projects that directly support communities
