Position Overview
Data Modeler
Key Responsibilities
Business & Domain Engagement
- Partner with business SMEs, underwriting, actuarial, and product teams to understand insurance product structures, coverage, rating, policy, premium, claims, and exposure concepts across WC, CMP, UMB, and GL.
- Lead requirements elicitation sessions to translate business needs into conceptual and logical data models.
- Explain data models in business-friendly terminology, ensuring shared understanding and sign‑off.
- Extend and customize the OMG Insurance Industry Data Model to support new lines of business while maintaining cross‑LOB consistency.
- Design and maintain:
- Conceptual Data Models reflecting business entities and relationships
- Logical Data Models with normalized structures, attributes, and rules
- Physical Data Models optimized for Lakehouse (Delta / Parquet‑based) storage
- Ensure models support multi‑source integration, including:
- Legacy RQI systems
- Guidewire platform (PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter as applicable)
- Design models aligned with Lakehouse architecture principles, supporting both:
- Operational analytics and reporting
- Advanced analytics and downstream data products
- Work closely with data engineers to ensure models align with medallion architecture (Bronze/Silver/Gold) patterns.
- Define data standards for:
- Keys, hierarchies, grain
- Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD)
- Conformed dimensions across LOBs
- Ensure data models adhere to enterprise data governance standards.
- Define business definitions, data lineage, and metadata required for effective data cataloging.
- Support data quality rule definition in collaboration with data governance teams.
- Collaborate with solution architects, data engineers, BI teams, and QA to ensure seamless implementation.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure modeling best practices are consistently applied.
- Support incremental delivery as new products and coverages are onboarded.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) Insurance, specifically:
- WC, CMP, General Liability, Umbrella
- Policy, premium, coverage, exposure, claims, and risk entities
- Hands-on experience working with OMG Insurance Industry Data Model (customization and extension).
- Proven expertise in Conceptual, Logical, and Physical Data Modeling.
- Experience modeling enterprise-scale insurance data platforms.
- Strong understanding of dimensional and normalized modeling patterns.
- Experience with modern data platforms / Lakehouse architectures (Databricks, Delta Lake, Snowflake, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with Guidewire data structures is strongly preferred.
- Experience integrating legacy systems and modern platforms into a unified model.
- Proficiency in data modeling tools ERwin
- Ability to document models using clear business definitions and metadata artifacts.
